Teaching Assistant/PPA cover

One of our local primary schools in the Preston area is looking to recruit a Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school, working within a small SEN class supporting pupils who require additional support to access learning.
This is an ongoing, full time position, Monday to Friday, working from 8:30am to 3:30pm. The successful candidate will work as part of the school’s SEN team, providing consistent support to pupils within a small-class environment.
The role will involve supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them to engage with learning, develop independence and feel confident within the school environment. The successful candidate will also be required to lead the class during the main teacher’s PPA time, so confidence in taking responsibility for a class and managing learning and behaviour is essential.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant looking for a long-term role within a supportive SEN setting.

SEN Teaching Assistant role requirements:

• Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is essential
• Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within an SEN setting
• Experience supporting pupils with additional needs
• A good understanding of SEND and inclusive practice
• Confidence supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
• Experience managing behaviour using positive and consistent strategies
• Confidence leading a class during the teacher’s PPA time
• Strong communication and behaviour management skills
• A patient, resilient and nurturing approach
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
• Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will:

• Support pupils within a small SEN class
• Provide 1:1 and small group support where required
• Assist pupils with their learning, development and independence
• Adapt activities and support learning to meet individual needs
• Support the class teacher with the delivery of inclusive lessons
• Take responsibility for leading the class during the teacher’s PPA time
• Manage behaviour using consistent, positive strategies
• Encourage engagement, confidence and independence
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team
• Contribute to a positive and nurturing classroom environment
