SEND TEACHER – FULL-TIME

Working Pattern: Teaching 4 days per week + Planning/Reports 1 day per week

The RoleWe are currently recruiting for an experienced and dedicated SEND Teacher to join an established Alternative Provision setting in Wigan on a full-time, long-term basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and who is confident working with pupils who may have complex learning, behavioural, social and emotional needs.

The successful candidate will teach for four days each week, with Fridays dedicated to planning, preparation, assessment, reports and other administrative responsibilities. This provides a structured working week and dedicated time to prepare high-quality learning and ensure pupil progress is accurately recorded and monitored.
Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging lessons for pupils with SEND.
• Teach across a range of subjects according to the needs of the setting and individual pupils.
• Adapt teaching, resources and activities to meet a wide range of learning needs.
• Create a calm, structured and supportive classroom environment.
• Establish positive relationships with pupils and maintain high expectations.
• Support pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
• Use appropriate behaviour-management strategies to promote positive engagement.
• Monitor, assess and record pupil progress.
• Complete pupil reports and relevant educational documentation.
• Work closely with support staff and other professionals to meet individual pupil needs.
• Contribute to individual education and support plans where required.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, behaviour and interventions.
• Liaise with parents, carers and other professionals when appropriate.
• Follow safeguarding, child-protection and school policies at all times.
• Use the dedicated Friday planning day effectively for preparation, assessment, reports and professional responsibilities.

About the PupilsThe setting supports young people who may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education and require a more individualised approach.

Pupils may present with a range of SEND, social, emotional and behavioural needs, so the successful teacher will need to be patient, consistent, adaptable and confident in developing positive relationships.

Experience within Alternative Provision, SEND schools, PRUs, specialist settings or challenging mainstream environments would be highly advantageous.

• Holds QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Has experience teaching pupils with SEND and/or additional needs.
• Has strong classroom and behaviour-management skills.
• Can adapt teaching to individual pupil needs.
• Is confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.
• Can create engaging and accessible learning experiences.
• Has high expectations while maintaining a nurturing and supportive approach.
• Is organised and confident completing reports and assessment documentation.
• Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Has a strong understanding of safeguarding.
• Is committed to helping vulnerable young people make positive progress.

Working PatternThe successful teacher will work five days per week:

• Monday – Thursday: Teaching and pupil-facing responsibilities
• Friday: Planning, preparation, assessment, reports and other professional responsibilities

This structure provides dedicated time each week to ensure lessons are well prepared and pupil progress is carefully monitored.
