World Children’s Day

World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 and is celebrated annually on the 20th November to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.

Parents, teachers, children as well as the rest of society play an important part in making World Children’s Day relevant for their societies, communities and nations. The day offers each of us an inspirational entry-point to advocate, promote and celebrate children’s rights.

Here is how you as a teacher can get involved?

Get the UNICEF World Children’s Day lesson plan here. This year’s lesson focus is on sustainability – aligning perfectly with Geography Awareness Week.

Another activity in class that you can encourage the children to do is take part in the UNICEF illustration #voicesofyouth Pick a cause that matters to you, create an original illustration that shows the world you want to build… and post it on your own Instagram account or submit it through Voices of Youth! In the caption, explain what inspired you to create this drawing, why this issue matters to you or how you want to contribute to build a better world for children. Find out more information for the challenge here.
