Secondary school teachers

Secondary school teachers get the opportunity to shape a student’s future, to engage, to influence and show passion for their subject – and that’s something to be proud of.

After studying Electronic and Computer Systems Engineering, I realised that engineering wasn’t the industry for me.  At the time I was working in an office environment; it was comfortable, easy work and decent money, but I had no job satisfaction at all and dreaded Monday morning. By chance I bumped into my old school science teacher and I remembered how much their creativity and passion inspired me to study engineering, which triggered the idea for teaching.  I contacted a few secondary school teachers to gain some first-hand insight from them, the challenges, rewards, working hours etc.

Coming from a fast-paced working environment, I knew I could get stuck into teaching fairly quickly. I spent time visiting a couple of secondary schools, pushed myself to do some volunteering work and then set about obtaining the right qualifications.

I’ve been teaching for 2 years now, every day is different, it can be stressful at times, but when you love what you do, it never really feels like work.
