Human Rights Day

Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on the 10th December every year. The date was chosen to honour the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption and proclamation in 1948.

The universal declaration of human rights empowers us all, – we can take action in our own daily lives, to uphold the rights that protect us all and thereby promote the kinship of all human beings.

Therefore, it is essential to teach these rights and why they are so important to students.

Amnesty International has created a useful lesson plan to use in class, find the link here.

Did you know that there is a list of children’s rights first written by Save the Children founder, Eglantyne Jebb, in 1923? It was adopted by the United Nations in 1989 and broadly says that every child has the right to survival, protection and education. Learn more about this international agreement via the Save the Children website, where you can use it in class to explore some issues both for children in the UK and those abroad.
