Opening up a new way of work

1 to 1 Tuition

One to one tuition has been introduced on a national basis to those children who, despite best efforts, do not make the progress they need in a small group or whole class setting.
Without an individualised approach it may be hard for these children to make the progress needed to achieve their full potential.
To support the needs of these children the DCSF has committed that by 2010- 2011 300,000 pupils a year will receive one to one tuition in English and 300,000 pupils in Maths.

The DCSF has funded this provision for Key Stage 2 and 3 children and in National Challenging schools in Key Stage 4.

As part of our support to this invaluable initiative, Key Stage Teacher Supply have been working closely with the 1:1 Tuition Project Support Team in Lancashire to ensure that our tutors are receiving induction training and that they are working within the DCSF/LCC good practice guidelines.
There is also on-going support from Lancashire for our Tutors to enable them to access resources and attend ‘drop in’ sessions throughout the region.

One to one tuition can only be carried out by a qualified tutor, who is:

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • An overseas qualified teacher eligible to teach in schools in England and who has work experience in the UK.
  • NQTs. If you are an NQT you must be doing other teaching work, whether it is supply or a contract. You can not just be a one to one tutor.
  • Subject specific qualifications from HE or FE sectors
